Trivial Pursuit for Book Lovers
Children’s: What F-word, whimsically coined by fifth-grader Nick Allen for “pen,” attracts national attention in an Andrew Clements book?
Classics: What Steinbeck novel begins unseasonably, with “When the fair gold morning of April stirred…”?
Non-Fiction: Who wrote about his childhood town’s holiday windfall from a truckload of spilled grapefruit, in the memoir Christmas in Plains?
Book Club: What Brooklyn author’s debut novel, Gun, with Occasional Music, featured a gangster kangaroo?
Authors: What pen name did Alf Wright swipe from a Scottish soccer player, to write books based on his own life as a Yorkshire veterinarian?
Book Bag: What P-word appears in the title of every Lucas Davenport mystery by author John Sandford?
Might have four today, but I’m definitely guessing on some:
Children’s: Frindle
Classics: The Winter of Our Discontent
Nonfiction: Jimmy Carter?
Authors: Could it be James Herriot?
That’s all I’ve got.
good guessing!
Frindle
James Herriot
I should know the Steinbeck one but I can’t pull it out of my brain.
Classics: The Winter Of Our Discontent
Authors: James Herriot, I love his books.
PREY?!
YES!

Non-Fiction: Jimmy Carter

Book Bag: ?
As always, stumped by the mysteries.
I’ve just got two. Book Club: Jonathan Lethem (ah Brooklyn authors) and Authors: James Herriot. That is not very impressive BUT I love James Herriot so much that I needed to say something about it. James Herriot! He is the sweetest.
I’m guessing people who don’t like the topic Herriot writes about or the way he writes don’t read him, because I’ve never heard anyone say they don’t like him. We thought of him when we were in Yorkshire; they sold all his books in Haworth.
I only knew James Herriot.
